Glitched : A VR Talk Show and Podcast
Artist Statement
Imagine the challenge of selling a concept that doesn't yet exist, only to be tasked with delivering it within a mere 60 days. It felt like assembling an airplane mid-flight, an exhilarating yet demanding endeavor. My mission was to pioneer immersive media, taking a casual VR talk show and elevating it into a high-level production. Prior to the creation of Glitched, the concept of a VR show commissioned and treated with the same gravitas as a traditional TV show was unheard of. Glitched broke new ground, laying a strong foundation for the future of the industry.
Role
When faced with an opportunity, one often has to don multiple hats - and this situation was no exception. Though my primary role was that of a creative director, I also functioned as a writer, host, 3D asset creator, and marketer. Despite having a budget for the show, the majority was allocated towards advertising and a modest staff. For the second season, we went the extra mile - traveling all the way to Beverly Hills to undergo full-body photogrammetry scans of the hosts, enhancing the immersive quality of the show significantly. Then in opening of season 3 we were a headlining act at VRLA.
Results
Glitched was a VR talk show that ran until the closing of AltspaceVR in August 2017, providing a platform for lesser-known industry professionals to gain much-deserved recognition. During each episode, the hosts engaged in discussions about the VR industry with guests either releasing a game/experience or being a VR personality with a large audience. Following the primary interview, fans had the opportunity to interact with our guests, asking questions about their work. The series was commissioned for two seasons by High Fidelity VR, each consisting of six episodes. It is now recognized as the first VR talk show to be ordered by a network, much like a conventional TV show.
