Mai Place Logo and Branding
Assignment
I began by studying traditional Chinese symbols and motifs, focusing on elements that represented family, resilience, and heritage. Inspiration was drawn from southern Chinese art and patterns, as well as from imagery associated with the natural beauty of Washington state.
Solution and Process
I sketched various logo concepts that combined traditional Chinese calligraphy with modern design elements. The goal was to blend cultural authenticity with a clean, modern aesthetic, using shapes and textures that would resonate with both local and international audiences.
Work Included
Logo: A powerful, modern clean design with an Asian flare
Business Cards: Professional and visually striking
Website: modern and practical website that shows off authentic Chinese cuisine
Working with a legacy
Working with the family behind Mai Place was an incredibly rewarding experience, filled with warmth, passion, and stories that truly inspire. Seeing their dedication to preserving family recipes and sharing a piece of their heritage through food gave me a profound appreciation for the cultural journey they’ve woven into every dish. Creating a logo that represents not just a restaurant but a family’s legacy was an honor, and I feel privileged to have played a part in bringing their vision to life.
