The Rage of Bandung Bondowoso

I’m so excited to share my latest illustration, inspired by the legendary Javanese tale of Roro Jonggrang and Bandung Bondowoso from The Legend of a Thousand Temples. This story has everything—love, betrayal, and the magical origins of Prambanan Temple.

In this piece, I wanted to capture the intense moment when Bandung Bondowoso realizes he’s been tricked. His devil servants have fled, fooled by Roro Jonggrang’s clever fake sunrise, and his anger erupts as she tries to run from him. I worked hard to make the poses as dynamic as possible, with their flowing scarves and the swirling fog adding to the drama and tension of the scene.

This moment is such a pivotal part of the story, and I wanted the emotions to really come through—his rage, her desperation, and the tragic energy that ties it all together. Scroll through to see the full artwork, and let me know what you think!
