Platform Navigation

Intuitive and Enjoyable Navigation
myToys was an online e-commerce platform offering a wide range of products for children. Due to the extensive product categories, providing users with a clear overview was challenging. As a UX/UI Designer, I gathered insights from multiple user research studies and redesigned the navigation process to enhance the product search experience. By integrating the menu with the product overview page, I used visual elements strategically to minimize users' cognitive load during navigation and streamline their search process. The mobile navigation I designed increased product search efficiency by 54%.
Introduction
From previous user research in 2022, I've learned that users are looking for guidance when using the Burger Menu or Global Navigation. A trend has been identified in online platforms where navigation is becoming more fluid and is no longer solely based on the burger menu. Product Overview Page (POP) offers not only category-oriented but also context-oriented navigation. Users have more flexibility to search by context and have a better overview to search through sub-categories on POP. We want to understand if and how our users can benefit from this design trend.
Find the Right Product
I recognized the pattern of behavior that most users rely on direct search when they have a clear or vague idea of what they want. However, others require guidance when seeking inspiration or feeling uncertain about their search. For example, some users may know the type of product they need but not its specific name, others might want to find items suitable for children of a particular age, and some explore product categories to gather inspiration. I combined common search indicators such as age and brand to provide users with a more intuitive search experience rather than a hierarchy where users are forced to go through each category layer.
