Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - Aerith Character Portrait

These character bust posters were created as a conceptual exclusive collectible merchandise for die-hard fans to promote the release of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and encourage social media buzz. These posters were based off the official CGI render of Aerith from the game.

The style of the illustration busts were meant to be done in a realistic hatching style. This style is an unusual aesthetic for this franchise (where they would usually opt to use official CGI character renders/Key Art for promo items) making them so unique and collectable. In addition to the busts, I developed pattern work to go with the busts. These patterns were developed based off important items from each character;

For Aerith, before we are formally introduced to to her in the game, she is introduced as a “Flower Peddler” and as a token of appreciation for saving her from danger, she gifts Cloud a flower. Once Aerith joins and fights alongside Cloud, we see her fighting and healing magic is all tied to her flowers; which is why her flowers were the inspiration for her background pattern.
