Greendalf Cannabis Logo & Branding
Greendalf is a new player in the cannabis industry which needed to stand out in a competitive market while appealing to consumers who prioritize ethical and local sourcing.
The design approach for Greendalf Cannabis aimed to develop a distinctive brand identity that plays with unique packaging solutions and a play-on-word advertising while touching on themes of magics and mysticism and also resonating with quality-conscious and imaginative consumers that further sets the brand apart in the market.
The logo design for Greendalf was meticulously crafted by drawing inspiration from the symbolic imagery of a marijuana leaf, which was transformed into an abstract representation of a powerful sorcerer in the midst of casting a spell.
After the initial brand concept and theme was established, I conducted in-depth research into retro wizardry and magic-themed visuals, exploring vintage posters for live magic performances, advertisements for magic kits, and fantasy artwork from the 1960's and 1970's. This nostalgic aesthetic heavily influenced the direction of both the illustration and typography, giving the brand a timeless yet whimsical feel that resonates with fans of both cannabis and classic fantasy culture.
Beyond the posters, I also developed a 'magic circle' as a signature element for the brand and its illustrations. This magic circle, inspired by iconic fantasy art and comic books like the legendary Doctor Strange, was designed to resemble a mystical mandala. The pattern features the marijuana leaf repeated in a circular arrangement, creating a spellbinding design that not only reinforces the magical theme but also ties back to the brand's cannabis roots. This circle is intended to become a key visual motif for the brand, appearing across various mediums to further immerse the audience in its enchanted, retro-fantasy universe.
