Onitsuka Tiger

I was watching the US track team over the summer while I was back to school shoe shopping for our kids online. It made me think of my favorite shoes and their connection to the Olympics. The Onitsuka 66 shoe was created for the trials and competitions of the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico. They became the company’s signature shoe and a cultural icon. The company would rebrand itself as ASICS in the late 70’s, but still releases these classics under their fashion brand name of Onitsuka Tiger and enjoyed a comeback in the 2000s due to their timeless aesthetic and availability in a variety of color combinations. I myself have more pairs in different colorways than I care to admit. Makes me feel a little like an Olympian and puts a little pep in my step every time I slip a pair on.
