X - Broadening Algorithm
It's been a few weeks since the election, and I still can’t shake the political content from my feed. I may not be actively engaging with it—no likes or shares—but I can’t help but read it, which might explain its persistence. My X feed is filled with right-leaning content, while my TikTok feed leans left. I strive for balance to broaden my perspective, but it got me thinking about those who stick predominantly to one platform. Are they at risk of falling into echo chambers by not consuming diverse viewpoints?
What If... all social media platforms, including X, proactively adjusted their algorithms to showcase content from different perspectives? This new feed could foster greater tolerance and respect for differing ideals. Unfortunately, the downside might be that people would migrate to platforms that allow them to remain in their comfort zones.
Sadly, the latter seems more likely, making this idea far-fetched.
