📊 Screentime Percentile

Recently, I took my daughter to the doctor for her check-up. We measured her height, weight, and head circumference during the visit. The doctor then showed me how she compares to other children her age using something called percentiles. While I wasn’t entirely sure why they did this, I figured it was a way to monitor her growth and identify any potential concerns if she fell on either extreme of the curve. Thankfully, she was right where she should be, growing up healthy and strong.

This got me thinking about another form of measurement—our screen time. The iPhone has a feature that tracks how much time you spend on your device and reports your usage. This information can be incredibly helpful if you’re trying to manage your screen time. But what if there was more?

What If... the iPhone displayed your screen time relative to others in your contact list, using a percentile scale similar to how we assess children's growth? This comparison could provide a clearer picture of our phone usage among friends and family.

Beyond sparking competition, this feature could encourage healthier habits, prompting people to reflect on their screen time. It’s similar to measuring a child’s growth but tailored for our digital lives.

What do you think? Would you be curious to see where you stand on such a scale? I imagine I’d fall on the right side of the curve.
