'Sun Wheel' Mark

Notes on the design

Hand drawn illustrated mark done in Procreate with monoline brushes.

Unused logo exploration for a client.

This started as a geometric doodle working with semi-circles and slice shapes (think tropical fruit!)

I ended up arranging them in a circular pattern and tweaking the sizes for a more organic feel. Once I added stems and connected all of the wedges the mark took on a leafy, pinwheel look. (I can also see how the mind's eye associates this shape loosely with a pot leaf but not where I was trying to go!)

However I intended these more as abstract sun rays; as the disc breaks the horizon the oblique beams create longer lines of light reaching into the sky, and low angles along the Earth's surface.

Each leaf or sun-ray or whatever interpretation, is subtly unique in shape and weight since the lines and arcs are hand drawn, while still giving the mark eye-pleasing balance and symmetry.
