Illustrated Haiku #1 - 'Max'

Digital illustration done in Procreate with monoline and texture brushes.

Hand lettering doodle practice. Wonky, loose style for a blowing/falling effect. Decide to keep in solid white to let the background texture set the scene and pop the words with strong contrast.

The story behind the piece

I was raking leaves with my son Max and wrote this haiku for him. He has this beautiful copper-auburn hair color that comes alive in the sunshine. The quintessence of fall.

I don't really try my hand at poetry much but this form has always been my favorite. Perhaps I'll start practicing a bit more. Decided to illustrate these words to celebrate our favorite season.
