'Exotic' - Inktober 10/4

Notes on the design

Inktober 10/4 - 'Exotic'

Day 4 of the @jakeparker Inktober Challenge.

Sketched in 4H pencil, inked with Micron, digitized in Procreate.

The story behind the piece

It may be cliche but the word exotic first makes me think of the jungle. These ecosystems have some of the most abundant biodiversity on the planet and still contain many species of flora and fauna yet to be discovered.

The density and variety of life in the jungle makes for such a visually interesting and complex landscape, so I liked the challenge of trying to render a place with such depth and layers into a 2D drawing.

This style of illustration doesn't necessarily convey the depth of field in a realistic sense, but the overlapping elements and line breaks create a very intricate, interwoven effect that feels authentic.

Visual confusion from the tangle of lines and shapes conveys the how the tiger's patterning makes a perfect natural camouflage for this environment.
