Abstract & Humanist Rails logo

The very old (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e9/Ruby_on_Rails.svg) Rails logo was recently updated (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e9/Ruby_on_Rails.svg) and tweaked (https://github.com/rails/homepage/pull/30) to address some glaring issues (https://twitter.com/olivierlacan/status/689746317380325376).

Despite the evolutions brought about by the new version of the logo, I have several issues with it:
- it's uninspired
- the railroad perspective makes no sense
- the railroad looks like a tentacle
- there is no contrast between the type and the logo
- the typeface is unbalanced and generic
- the shapes of the R don't mesh with the rest very well
- red, red everywhere

So tried to take a crack at addressing some of these issues. After four versions I feel like I have something interesting if far from polished:
- the typeface is a Hypatia Sans Pro with a few modifications
- it's not all caps, and I spent some time refining the shapes to make them more harmonious, still some work left to do there
- the railroad is more abstracted and stylized but much more evocative with a much more accurate vanishing point
- Ruby is evoked through the red color of the railroad but the typeface is black to create strong contrast and legibility
- the logo doesn't span huge horizontal lengths and can fit neatly in many situations

I still want to work more and I'm really interested in rebounds and opinions, especially from folks like @Justin Mezzell.
