Adaptiv Immunology Branding

Project Summary

The broad therapeutic potential of novel IgM hexamer antibodies is still vastly undiscovered. Although hexamers were discovered decades ago, their limited natural creation and short shelf life make them a challenge to explore in research and clinical settings. However, this begs the question of what their broad therapeutic potential could be. I challenged myself to create a sleek, modern, and clean visual identity for a female-founded and women-led biotech working to develop first-in-class immunotherapies with hexamer antibodies. Why? Just like hexamers face industry challenges, so do female-founded and women-led biotechs and life sciences companies. According to Nature Biotechnology, in 2020, one in four US-based biotech startups had a female founder. Approximately 40% of biotech startups had at least one woman on their Board of Directors, and ~42% had at least one woman in an executive position. According to Forbes, in 2021, women represented ~23% of biotech CEOs, and in 2023, for the first time in US history, women represented a mere 10% of Fortune 500 company CEO roles. An abysmal 3% of VC funding goes to businesses founded by women. This is despite statistics demonstrating that in 2023, female founders of tech companies generated 35% higher ROI than their male counterparts.

While strides have been made on both hexamer discovery and gender equality fronts, there is still room for more. That's where Adaptiv Immunology rises to the challenge, both old and new.

3D Structures

The use of 3D proteins as a brand element serves to provide an elevated and almost tangible approach to biological and immune system structures. In life sciences, 3D structures can help shed light on protein architecture and attribute a function to so-far hypothetical proteins. Not only do they lend a bold, vibrant, and unique approach to brand backgrounds across collateral, but their use also suggests that further exploration and therapeutic discovery is within "grasp".

Glassmorphism

Glassmorphism is a design element that looks like frosted glass. It is often leveraged as a UI design element for websites and comprises translucent interface components to create depth. Since 2020, it has been prominent in Apple and Microsoft's design systems. Here, I leveraged glassmorphism to create expansive pseudo-biological environments for various proteins and structures to reside across brand collateral. The glassmorphic approach, when paired with the 3D rendering of antibodies, lymphocytes, and other immune system structures, enhances the utility of the otherwise too-busy and textural structures. The use of glass is also a nod to the phrase, "through the looking glass" to connotate providing transparency on the unfamiliar. A fitting metaphor for hexamers with minimally discovered potential.

Color Palette

The feminine-leaning color palette evokes feelings of creativity, wisdom, wonder, compassion, and trust. The primary color, Savoy Blue, combines the dependability of blue and the imagination of purple for a quiet yet powerful air. When paired with the Magenta and Mulberry colors, it bolsters the creative, optimistic, and playful emotions of pink with the trust and responsibility of blue. The darker purples lend added feelings of success, majesty, and intuition. Using cream as a primary neutral softens, calms, and balances the palette for a vibrant and industry-differentiated take on femtech.
