18th Annual River City Roots Festival Logo
With less than a week away I wanted to share this. I was given a second shot at doing the logo and poster designs for Missoula's Annual River City Roots Festival. Being given another chance to do the Roots Fest graphics was both very humbling and also gave me the chance to think of some different ways this logo design could be created.
When working on any project I try my best to be intentional and thoughtful with my image, typography and color choices. Which ones sing and which fall flat?
This year I wanted to challenge myself to create a design that was different from year's past but ultimately had a invoked similar nostalgia; ultimately this year's design combined the folky playfulness of the river with a hint of Western flare and elements of both the river and festival.
For the colors, I wanted to go with some very specific primary colors, as is shown in the background photo (📷 Reed Geiger) of Missoula and the Clark Fork River. I wanted colors that were authentic of an actual Missoula river sunset - mainly because of where the Festival falls at this time of year (at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn) but they also have distinct harmony together that I feel is timeless.
