'The Overpacker' - Cover Design Sketch

Notes on the design

Ink pen on paper (digital from RSCO.)

I'm working on a kid's book concept tentatively titled, "The Overpacker."

Starting to layout the storyboard and did a quick gestural sketch for the cover, which I think turned out nice in it's simplicity. For a practice challenge I tried to do this in (as close to) one continuous stroke as possible.

I plan to recreate this in a fully illustrated color version for the final cover art.

Story behind the piece

This is the very prelim of a story book idea I've had for a while, centering on an archetypal character, The Overpacker.

Both universally and personally speaking, this 'overpacker' is someone who has grand ambitions to see the world and reach the highest peaks, but is easily forestalled in an endless loop of preparation for some future encounter with an unforeseen obstacle, and not having the proper plan or tool to overcome it.

The 'overpacker' is fastidious, diligent, and rehearsed for virtually any scenario.

The 'overpacker' is a great person to know should you find yourself up a proverbially creek without a paddle.

The 'overpacker' is not a great travel buddy should you need to tread lightly, cover vast distances, or fit into tight spaces.
