Background and Objectives
I created this UI design for a mobile MMORPG game with the objective of developing a simple interface that still meets the aesthetics and functionality of an RPG game. Given the limited time I had, I prioritized simplicity and consistency of UI elements.
My Proccess
My design process began by gathering various references and analyzing how these sources created interactions and designed the appearance of their components or elements. This analysis guided me in understanding the best practices and trends in the industry, which I then adapted and simplified for my own design approach.
Design Approach
Using AI for Illustrations: I utilized AI to create character and background illustrations, allowing me to produce engaging visuals more efficiently.
Simplicity with Game Context: Noting that many MMORPG games have complex and decorative UI elements, I adopted a minimalist approach by using simpler and cleaner shapes.
Design Challenges
Difficulty: Many MMORPG game buttons are complex and heavily decorated with textures and excessive icons.
Solution: I chose to use buttons with corner radius on only two sides, adding a slight effect to maintain a game-like feel but with a simpler and more modern approach. I applied this design consistently across all UI elements to maintain uniformity.
Reflection and Further Development
Simplicity and Efficiency: My decision to simplify UI elements was a strategic step that not only addressed time constraints but also made the UI more user-friendly.
Further Development: While this simplistic approach has been successful, there is potential to further experiment with light animations or color variations to enhance the user experience without compromising simplicity.
Conclusion
This design successfully creates a consistent and efficient interface with a minimalist approach, while still maintaining the aesthetic of an MMORPG. Although there were challenges in balancing functionality with appealing visuals, my approach to prioritizing simplicity has provided a relevant solution within the context of mobile gaming.
