Daily UI #003 | A Marketing Site for a Water Nonprofit

Hey humans :) Here's part two of my most recent Daily UI challenge.

I'm circling back a bit to fill in the holes in my Daily UI prompts so far. #003 was a task I struggled to finish because of scale. To me it felt like it wasn't just 'Design a Marketing Site', it was create a brand, logo, copywrite (which in this case included research), then design a marketing site. Where other prompts might have taken a handful of hours, this one took more like eight. But I love the results and feel like this lil task helps fill out my portfolio in ways my day job might not touch.

I designed a brand focused on providing potable water resources in third-world areas. The name Aquality is a portmanteau of Aqua + Equality. Pretty straightforward. Those of us with plenty of resources forget that we have access to so much opportunity because we have time; we don't spend our days searching for food and water. Ensuring these needs are met gives people living in poverty more of a chance to lift themselves out of it.

Writing the text content was a little time-consuming - though I have some copywriting experience, writing doesn't come easy for me. I'm pleased with the results though! I wanted the information to be framed in a way that is straightforward and informal because the statistics and data are horrifying. Sometimes with so much despair we get frustrated and shut our brains off; I wanted users to feel like they could help in some tangible way. Will include my sources for the statistics at the bottom of this description.

I designed the site itself to be focused on visual storytelling rather than innovative design. When I initially came up with a direction for this prompt, the first thing I decided upon was the visual of the cup of water pouring into the waterfall. I felt it would be a good illustration of how small actions can escalate into huge impact. With the rest of the visuals I was aiming for high-impact imagery that would really illustrate the gulf between having water and not. I kept the UI design as minimal as possible (a struggle for me, haha), using clean sans-serif typography and minimal illustrations to keep information readable and clean. I think if this site were developed it would have great potential for animations and pretty interactions.
