Arenapicks: MMA Fantasy CASE STUDY

Tools: Figma  |  Research: Google Forms  |  Duration: June-August 2024

Introduction

Project Overview: My project, Arenapicks, is a fantasy sports website that allows users to create fantasy teams and compete with others. The aim is to provide an engaging and user-friendly platform for fantasy sports enthusiasts.

My Role: As the UI/UX designer, I am responsible for designing an intuitive and engaging user experience, ensuring that users can easily navigate and enjoy the platform.

Problem Statement

User Needs: Through my research, I identified that users needed a seamless way to create and manage their fantasy teams. They also wanted to easily track their team's performance and engage with the community.

Business Goals: The primary goal for Arenapicks is to increase user engagement and retention by enhancing the user experience. By making the platform more intuitive and enjoyable, I aim to attract more users and keep them coming back.

  1. Surveys: I distributed an online survey to 200 users, receiving insights on the current user experience:

    • 70% rated the existing user interface as “somewhat difficult” to navigate.

    • 85% expressed interest in more robust community features.

    • 60% desired better visualization tools for tracking team performance.

  1. Mind Mapping: To organize my findings and plan the design process, I created a mind map. This visual tool helped in structuring the user research insights, identifying problem areas, and outlining potential design solutions. The mind map included branches for user research findings, problem areas, design solutions, and implementation steps.

Moodboard

To establish a cohesive and engaging visual style for Arenapicks, I created a mood board that reflects the intended tone and aesthetic of the website.

Wireframing

Based on the research insights, I created wireframes to map out the user flow and layout of key pages. This helped in visualizing the structure and ensuring that all user needs were addressed.

Visual Design

Color Palette: Using the 60-30-10 rule, I aimed to keep the app’s design clean and user-friendly. By applying this color strategy, I focused on using color to highlight key calls to action (CTAs), ensuring that users are guided smoothly through the app without being overwhelmed by excessive visual elements.

Typography: The typography choices were made to ensure readability and consistency across the platform. The primary font is RBNo3.1, used for headings and body text, while Inter is used for accents and special elements. This combination provides a modern and clean look that aligns with the brand's identity.

Main Page

The main page of Arenapicks is designed for ease of use and engagement. It features a prominent hero section with a compelling call-to-action, a straightforward navigation menu, and highlights key content like upcoming matches and leaderboards. The design uses a cohesive color palette and typography to ensure a clean, user-friendly experience, guiding users effortlessly to important features and updates.

The mobile view of Arenapicks ensures a seamless and engaging experience on smaller screens. The hero section features a prominent image and call-to-action, optimized for mobile devices. A simplified navigation menu offers easy access to key features, while important content like upcoming matches and leaderboards are highlighted for quick viewing. The design maintains the cohesive color palette and typography, ensuring clarity and usability for mobile users, guiding them effortlessly through the site’s features.
