The Schedule - AI Planner for Autistic Adults Mobile App
Routines can be incredibly important for some autistic adults — the disruptions of which can lead to full-on meltdowns. One of our source research articles for this case study says that during a meltdown, someone can even be angry and not remember their anger or what they did afterwards.
We innovated this AI-based solution for mitigating routine disruptions. Called the Disruption Checker, the system checks a list of sources every morning, links it against the list of routines a person has, and notifies the person if they have a potential disruption.
In this example, the AI checked that “grocery shopping” might clash with Eid al-Adha. This is based on the fact that in many Muslim countries, the Eid celebrations may span an entire week during which urban workers return to their homeland to mingle with family. Someone living in the city might have to anticipate stores closing and services being unavailable for up to two weeks.
This kind of context can be checked automatically nowadays. We suggest harnessing the power of the large language model to create an even better virtual assistant.
What do you think? How would you solve the problem of disruptions to routines?
