Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race - Poster Design

Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race

Poster Design / University Work

This is one of two creative responses to the BFI player collection. This output was to promote a single film made in the UK, designed to be viewed in a physical graphic form. Since I lived close to Oxford, I chose the yearly Oxford vs Cambridge Boat race event, as it is one of the world´s oldest amateur sporting events.

Having researched prevous iterations of the race posters, nearly all of them show the boats directly. I on the other hand wanted to take a more abstract approach and decided to show the ripples that the boat oars leave in the water during the race. To try and achieve this, I used a paper marbling technique, which I then translated into a digital version using liquid abstarct art as an inspiration for the swirls and design pattern.

Let me know what you think. :)

In addition to the poster, I designed some lapel pins using iconography associated with the boat race, like the universities logos as well as using the marbling results from the poster trials.
