Charles Schwab: Desktop (Apple Catalyst)

Research and Development of Charles Schwab on Mac Catalyst

After conducting thorough research on Apple Catalyst, I explored and developed the concept of extending Charles Schwab's core iOS app functionality to the desktop environment. My work included both technical and business case research to ensure the feasibility and benefits of this multi-platform approach. This independent development effort ultimately led to the successful production deployment of the app.

Project Highlights:

Multi-Platform Consistency: Through detailed technical research, I ensured the Charles Schwab app provides a consistent user experience across iOS and macOS. Users can switch between devices seamlessly while maintaining familiarity with the interface and functionality.

Enhanced Desktop Experience: By leveraging the capabilities of macOS, I optimized the app's design and interactions for larger screens. This included utilizing desktop-specific features such as keyboard shortcuts, drag-and-drop, and advanced window management to enhance productivity and ease of use.

Key Functionalities on macOS:

  • Dashboard Overview: Provides a comprehensive view of portfolios, market indices, and news updates.

  • Market Watchlist: Enables users to monitor favorite stocks and assets with real-time updates and detailed insights.

  • Research & Insights: Offers in-depth market research, investment tools, and expert analysis for informed decision-making.

  • Trading: Facilitates quick and intuitive trade execution with detailed order summaries and confirmations.

Design Considerations:

  • User-Centered Design: Created an intuitive and accessible interface catering to both novice and experienced investors.

  • Desktop Optimization: Ensured the app takes full advantage of macOS capabilities while maintaining visual and functional consistency with the iOS version.

  • Usability Testing: Conducted rigorous testing to ensure the app's intuitiveness and performance on the desktop platform.

Voice Integration:

Intended to use Google Diagloflow for Voice interactions to enable hands-free commands and interactions, enhancing accessibility and convenience.

Business Case Research:

Extensive research was conducted to understand the business implications and benefits of extending the app to macOS. This included analyzing user needs, market trends, and potential ROI.
