Charles Schwab: Apple Watch

Extending Charles Schwab's Experience on Apple Watch

For this project, I researched and explored how to extend Charles Schwab's core iOS app functionality to the Apple Watch. Rather than simply recreating experiences, I identified opportunities to leverage multiple channels (multi-devices) to help users achieve singular tasks. Our lives are multi-modal across screens, so why can't retail trading be?

Project Highlights:

1. Multi-Device Synergy: I aimed to create a seamless experience across devices, allowing users to start a task on one device and complete it on another. This approach enhances usability and efficiency, fitting seamlessly into users' daily routines.

2. Compliance Integration: Worked closely with compliance to introduce a significantly reduced flow that still achieved the desired outputs for customers. This ensured regulatory requirements were met while maintaining an intuitive user experience.

3. Key Functionalities on a Apple Watch:

  • Portfolio Management: Users can view their portfolio value, track stock performance, and receive real-time updates.

  • Trading on the Go: Enabled quick trading actions, including buying and selling stocks directly from the watch.

  • Market Insights: Integrated news and market updates, providing users with the latest financial information at a glance.

  • Voice Commands: Utilized Siri for hands-free trading, making the experience more convenient and accessible.

4. Design Considerations:

  • User-Centric Design: Focused on simplifying the interface, ensuring that the most important information is easily accessible.

  • Consistency: Maintained design consistency with the iOS app while optimizing for the smaller screen of the Apple Watch.

  • Usability Testing: Conducted extensive user testing to refine interactions and ensure a smooth, intuitive experience.
