UIX 101 Day 1 - Sign Up Page Design

I have embarked on a UIX 100-Day Design Challenge, and today marks Day 1. The first task is to create a sign-up page. Initially, I considered designing an entire onboarding flow but decided to keep it simple and focus on the sign-up page.

Phase 1: Research

Research is the foundation of any good design process. I began by exploring industry standards and best practices. I browsed through numerous sign-up page designs on Dribbble, taking notes on elements I liked and compiling a list of key features.

In addition to visual inspiration, I read several articles about creating effective sign-up pages. One particularly helpful resource was an article on web.dev, which included a video by Sam Dutton from the Chrome Dev Summit 2020. This resource provided valuable insights and best practices. I highly recommend checking it out here.

The research phase took me about three hours.

Phase 2: Branding

With my research complete, I moved on to branding. I selected two fonts, Montserrat and Jost, although I ultimately used only one. Next, I chose a color palette for the design. Establishing these branding elements early on allowed me to create consistent color and text components in Figma, streamlining the design process and making it easier to edit elements later.

Branding took me approximately half an hour.

Phase 3: Wireframe

Now, the fun part begins: designing the wireframe. I gathered all my notes and must-haves from the research phase and incorporated them into the wireframe. At this stage, my focus was on usability rather than aesthetics. Thanks to my thorough research, I quickly arrived at a wireframe that met my expectations.

The wireframe phase took one hour.

Phase 4: Design

This is why I love what I do: creating beautiful interfaces. I applied Vitruvius's architectural principles to my design. According to Vitruvius, a good building should be durable, usable, and beautiful. Having addressed durability and usability in the previous stages, I now focused on making the design aesthetically pleasing. I put in my best effort to create a sign-up page that is both functional and visually appealing.

This concludes Day 1 of my UIX 100-Day Design Challenge. I'm excited to continue this journey and share my progress along the way. Stay tuned for more updates!
