[Case Study] Luxwin — Renewable energies company

In 2020, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Luxwin, an Argentine company distinguished in the energy industry for providing innovative solutions such as home batteries that not only supply power during electrical outages but also store energy from solar panels. My role in this project was as a full stack designer, working alongside Pedro Bargo, a specialist in physical product design, and LZ renders, who were responsible for the contextual 3D visualizations.

Together, we established a close collaborative relationship with Luxwin, driven by iterative development rounds that included thorough research and co-creation workshops. This collaborative approach allowed us not only to better understand the client's needs but also to effectively integrate their ideas into our creative process.

During this project, we took charge of developing several key aspects for Luxwin. The work included creating a coherent brand identity, designing their website, developing physical products, managing social media, and producing various stationery materials. Each of these facets was designed with the goal of reinforcing Luxwin's market presence and ensuring clear and effective communication of its values and services.

The challenge

Luxwin approached me to entrust me with the design of their physical product, their brand identity, and their web platform. At the start of the project, the client was still in the functional prototyping phase of their flagship product, the Powerbox.

The challenge was to design a product that was not only efficient and easy to manufacture but also visually appealing and distinct. Simultaneously, we needed to create a brand that effectively communicated Luxwin's distinctive values. Additionally, it was crucial to design a website that clearly and distinctly showcased Luxwin's products and solutions, moving away from typical corporate websites.

All this, with limited resources, although without pressures regarding delivery times, as the product was in its initial phases.

Branding

After thorough benchmarking and analysis of the energy market and competition, we organized a creative workshop to define the identity of Luxwin. We concluded that the brand should emanate innovation, technology, sustainability, and dynamism.

The logo, inspired by energy and the sun, combines geometric and organic shapes, symbolizing dynamism and the continuous flow of energy, essential in the home battery solutions offered by Luxwin. This open and circular structure also represents integration and community, aligning with the company's values of sustainability and advanced technology.

The color palette includes neutral tones—white (#FFFFFF) and black (#050606)—which stand out for their minimalism and elegance, complemented by a dynamic gradient that goes from a soft violet to a sky blue, evoking innovation and modernity. This gradient provides a vibrant and technological aspect and represents the duality of solar and electrical energy.

This coherent and well-integrated approach not only reinforces Luxwin's visual identity but also establishes an emotional connection with the audience, effectively communicating the values and vision of the brand.

We chose the Manrope typography for its modern geometry and high readability, ideal for both digital and print applications, and its clean design facilitates excellent clarity in all brand communications.

Luxwin addresses its users with a tone of voice that is clear, direct, and empowering. Each message is designed to highlight energy independence and convey security and control. This approach not only reflects the brand’s mission to provide sustainable and reliable energy solutions but also fosters an emotional connection with the user, reinforcing the perception of Luxwin as an enabler of autonomy and resilience.

Luxwin's brand identity is defined by its simplicity, directness, and impact, manifesting across all visual applications. From the minimalist design of its logo to its business cards and signage, each element is crafted to convey Luxwin’s essence of energy autonomy in an intuitive and memorable way.

Physical product desgin

Pedro Bargo led the design of the Powerbox, with my collaboration focused on the aesthetic and conceptual details of the product. Together, our goal was to create a casing for this home battery, designed to provide power during electrical outages, that was not only functional but also aesthetically attractive and in harmony with the brand values.

The main challenge was to develop a product that combined visual appeal with practicality in manufacturing and reduced initial costs, all within a limited production framework. This led us to opt for an approach where technological innovation and constructive efficiency were fundamental.

We used laser cutting and folding techniques on steel parts to form the casing, which not only facilitated the production of a high-quality product at a moderate initial cost but also ensured flexibility in the manufacturing process. This flexibility is crucial, as it allows the incorporation of technical and aesthetic modifications in future series without the need for significant investments in new molds or tools, while contributing to a scalable and modular design. Lastly, it gave us the opportunity to play with unique patterns such as the ventilation grilles, in clear harmony with the logo, giving a distinctive and dynamic appearance.

These design and manufacturing decisions reflect a careful balance between aesthetics, functionality, and economic sustainability, ensuring that the Powerbox not only meets consumer expectations in terms of performance and reliability but also projects the desired brand image and remains aligned with Luxwin's principles of innovative and accessible design.

Website

Once the brand creation process was complete and we approached the product launch, I took on the responsibility of designing the website for Luxwin. This digital platform not only had to present the brand and its fundamental values of vision, mission, and sustainability but also had to highlight our flagship product, the Luxwin Powerbox, along with offering customized solutions for our clients.

The design of the website needed to reflect Luxwin's essential characteristics, such as technology, innovation, and sustainability. I opted for a minimalist and dynamic visual style, which allowed presenting the Powerbox not only in isolation but also in a variety of real usage scenarios, thus underlining its versatility and added value.

To enrich the user experience and distinguish our site from others in the industry, I incorporated multimedia elements such as videos and animations, which help capture the user's attention and facilitate a deeper understanding of the products and services we offer.

The use of Webflow as a development tool was decisive, as it provided me with the necessary flexibility to implement complex web designs without compromising quality or functionality. Additionally, the platform allowed for a seamless integration of interactive and responsive elements that ensure an excellent user experience on any device.

The result is a site that not only effectively communicates Luxwin's identity and values but also facilitates users to discover and explore our innovative energy solutions, fostering engagement and strengthening the brand's perception.

Stationery

As the product launch approached, I designed a series of stationery materials for Luxwin that included personal cards, templates for quotes, and manuals, maintaining coherence with the visual identity of the brand. This process, facilitated by the simplicity and robustness of the brand design, allowed for the creation of pieces that were not only visually cohesive but also functional and elegant. This approach reinforced the perception of Luxwin as a modern and professional brand, ensuring that each point of contact effectively communicated our promise of innovation and quality.

Reflection

This was my first major project encompassing identity design, physical product, website, and other brand elements. It was a considerable challenge, which I greatly enjoyed, learned immensely from, and was extremely satisfied with the results. The feedback received has been tremendously positive.

I especially thank Juan Pablo Chescotta, CEO & Founder of Luxwin, for giving me total freedom to devise and conceive his brand and product. And also to Pedro Bargo, for being my partner in this project and contributing all his knowledge, curiosity, and energy to achieve these incredible results.

Check out my work on luxwin.energy, and let me know what you think. I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did!
