AUGUMENTED LOGISTICS
"Too often we hear that German digital industry lags behind and is not up to the moment to position itself in these crucial times, but Germany and NRW have their successful pioneers! Timocom is one of these local digital power houses and pushes the limits of international transport logistics."
In 2018, i was honored to help DFIGN create a 6-minute commercial for Timocom.
Showcasing the capabilities of Timocom's applications and their new tagline, "Augmented Logistics".
An important feature of the film was to work both in its entirety and individually as a modular film.
We combined a lot of CGI-, future UI & VFX elements with matchmoved real footage to tell an emotional visual story about technology that is invisible to the naked eye.

The Carrier
First module
"In the first module, a carrier is faced with the task of finding potential orders in the surrounding area to avoid an empty trip back. From a real-time database, all orders are provided with the most important data. The data is displayed on a digital map, from type, distance to weight of the goods."
To do this, we developed dozens of custom shapes and graphics to drive a variety of effects throughout the film.
A major influence was Walter Gropius with his approaches to expressionism, the Bauhaus style. Since the Bauhaus represents a merger of art and craft. All CGI created in Autodesk Maya and comped together in TheFoundry Nuke. Motion Graphics, scfi details & custom shapes crafted in Adobe Illustrator and animated in Adobe After Effects.

CONVEYANCE
Seound module
"In the second module, a logistics company is faced with the task of carrying out a heavy-duty order.
On a digital map, the entire fleet is searched for a suitable free truck to transport a gas turbine."
We have created a stylized digital map of Europe with all available main transport routes.
Another big task was to enhance the real footage with digital ones.
The digitally created gas turbine was used to blend with the real footage.
All CGI created in Autodesk Maya and Sidefx Houdini. Matchmove and compositing was done in TheFoundry Nuke.
The motion graphics, scfi details, maps, routes & custom shapes were crafted in Adobe Illustrator and animated in Adobe After Effects.

SHIPPER
THIRD MODULE
"For the THIRD MODULE, a vendor is being sought for the missing inventory.
From a list of available vendors, the transport and delivery is determined at the same time."
Following good old motion design principles, various 2D assets were merged with 3D camera motion to create a kinetic animation. The simple elements served as an amalgamation of art and craft inspired by Bauhaus.
As with all modules, the challenge here was to merge real footage with the digitally designed world.

CLOSER
Timocom's digital blue world is visualized with graphs, tables, maps and complex virtual structures. The high-tech and software development character of Timocom ends with the logo.
