Who Killed the Walking ? - Main Title Cards

The first drop of a big project: creating multiple animations for a short documentary! Here we're talking Big Titles for Big Sections! Scroll a bit to see the full process

Stepping in the Design

The goal: To create a detective board (to match with the project) featuring all of the main title sections of the video. The idea was to have all elements displayed on the same frame and zoom into it to create the title sections.

First step : The sketch. The drawing part of the design was done on Procreate with an iPad. (Funfact : I sketch in red by habitude. I'm used to sketch either in red or in blue on paper, turns out the main reason why people do it is because it's easier to separate it on scans. No use for it on digital but I grew found of it)

Onto the cleanup/vectorialisation! Done with Linearity, still on the Ipad. Decided to go for the classical lineless look. This was the longest part of the designing. I saved all of the detail for this step, there was no real point in doing them before the layout/sketch was finalised. Unfortunately no timelaps for this part, I might have forgotten to record some.

The bread and butter of any design: the detail work. Textures, inserts, and (soon to be) animated details, the lighting... The fun stuff ! Here it was mostly filling the blank pictures with retouched relevant images (retouched video game screenshots and promotional material) as well as some little easter eggs from the channel.

The Leggys™ are a recurring character from the rest of the video (I might be teasing the rest of the posts 👀). I put the rig to use and inserted it into some pictures. As for meany things it is barely visible in the final product, so I'm letting it shine here

Strolling to the Animation

For the titles, I kept the animation simple. Most of the heavy lifting is done by masks, and animating transforms. Sometimes the simpler the better!
