Cortese - Wine Label Design

Welcome to the Wines of the World series, where today we're spotlighting Cortese. Recently, I've become captivated by the vast array of wines the world has to offer. Inspired by my New Year's resolution to create a new piece of work every day, I've decided to design a unique wine label for each type of wine I explore.

About Cortese

Cortese is an elegant white wine grape variety predominantly grown in the Piedmont region of Italy, particularly famous for producing the crisp and refreshing Gavi di Gavi wine. Known for its straw-yellow color with hints of green, Cortese wine offers a delicate bouquet of lime, green apple, and flint, providing a tantalizing freshness on the palate. This wine is highly appreciated for its balanced acidity and clean mineral finish, making it an excellent companion to seafood dishes, light pastas, and poultry. Cortese's refined profile makes it a cherished option among white wine lovers who seek a vibrant yet sophisticated drinking experience.

About the Design

Recently, I've been scouring the collections of the British Library, the Library of Congress, and various online archives for historical botanical illustrations. For the Cortese label, I've chosen an illustration of a lush palm, capturing the wine's fresh essence. This is paired with an elegant, old-world script font that reflects the storied tradition of winemaking.
