LANDR Mastering & Library

Online AI mastering has always been LANDR's bread and butter. It's been through many iterations since its original launch in 2014. When I joined in 2016, users would upload a single track, listen to a 30-second preview of the master, and then they get a notification by email when the master is ready. With time, our product had to evolve to respond to our users' ever-growing needs. Some of the main improvements include:

  1. Library: upload, master, store and organize your audio files

  2. Sharing: send tracks to collaborators and get feedback with ease

  3. Styles: choose between 3 unique styles, each with its own character and feel

  4. Albums: master tracks together for a seamless listening experience

  5. Reference: upload a reference track to get a specific sound profile

  6. Waitzine: learn more about LANDR and music while waiting for your master

Besides new features, we also completely refreshed the user experience of the product in 2018, following the creation of Maestro, our design system. I redesigned the whole UI, and improved a good part of the mastering user flow to reduce friction and increase activation. In 2022, thanks to our UX researcher, my team also ran a full analysis of the first-time user experience that validated our design and helped us improve a few details.

Special mentions to David Magère, Megan McNeil, Patrick Bourget, the audio engineering team and the development team for their hard work on this monumental product!

“LANDR is the future. You might as well get used to it now, because it's a tool that's very very valuable” —Dave Pensado
