I saw a recent TED talk by Roman Mars talking about principles of Flag design. He points out that many city flags don't follow these principles and contain things like city crests which are complex and hard to see from far away, text that's hard to read, and poor color choices.
Roman's call to arms inspired me to research my city's flag found here and give it a face-lift.
