DEFORMITY IN ITS BEAUTY

Furniture and Fashion Design

My scoliosis has been an inspiration to me for a long time. I love how it doesn’t make sense why a spine would just decide to grow in its way. I enjoy researching and finding inspiration in the topic. I designed a chair with scoliosis and experimented with some chairs in my house. For one chair, I removed the back and placed my scoliosis X-ray. For another, I used recycled paper as the backbone of the chair. In another, I simply drew a spine on the back of the chair. Lastly, I had a transparent chair where I sat facing backward so you could see a woman with scoliosis sitting in it. This served as inspiration for creating chiffon and mesh dresses with simple silhouettes, topped with corsets featuring scoliosis silhouettes, emphasizing the beauty in deformity.
