Poster for IBD Patient Advocacy Program
“It Takes Guts” is a poster for an IBD patient advocacy program for World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day. Discovery USA – A health care advocacy agency – partnered with Bristol Myers Squibb to commission several illustrators to create posters depicting the personal narratives of real people living with IBD.
Along with an inspiring brief from the agency, we were provided a story from a ‘Patient Ambassador,’ in their own words. From this, I learned that living with a chronic condition means taking time to grieve, but then moving forward with a full life. There were lots of fun visuals to pull from this patient’s rich description of her life and many interests – I chose to represent her experience as sort of a magical journey (with a bit of humour in the form of toilet paper lettering!).
