Encyclopedia of Opinion

This Encyclopedia of Opinion has been a really fun project that we've just tried to bring back to life in the past few months. It is still a work in progress, but I'm happy with the basic functions. The goal was to create an application that could support the mapping of all the worlds opinions. The idea is that generally for any topic an individual might have to review multiple sources to get a sense of all sides of topic. We wanted to create a site that would be comprehensive, clear, and concise, and it needed to feel trustworthy and reference like. The Encyclopedia of Opinion also needed to support the argument taxonomy that the team developed.

Question Pages

Each topic starts with a question, which has different positions, and then there are a set of arguments that support each position. The goal of this page is to be a complete overview of every issue. I think about it like a dinner party reference tool. If someone was talking about this issue, I could quickly get up to speed on all sides by reviewing this page. Here is an example question page: https://encyclopedia-of-opinion.org/c/pros-cons-vegetarianism

The page expands to share a definitions and allow a click through for more detail on the particular arguments. Here is an example page https://encyclopedia-of-opinion.org/a/vegetarianism-reduces-carbon-emissions

Argument Pages

After clicking through, the user can dig into the details of the Argument, Counter Argument, References, Premises, and Proponents. I tried to make the navigation between issues as easy as possible.

This is still a work in progress, but it has been fun to work through the taxonomy and create something that was easy to understand and something that felt authoritative.
