Ken Ludwig's "The Gods of Comedy" Illustrated Poster

Myth Meets Modern with an Illustrated Poster for Ken Ludwig's "The Gods of Comedy"

I'm delighted to present the official illustrated poster for the LSUA Empty Space Players' new show, "The Gods of Comedy." This poster features a dynamic composition with a bold graphic style and pops of color that aim to capture the spirit of Ken Ludwig's quirky play.

One of the biggest challenges of this project was striking a balance between the play's comedic and mythological elements. I aimed to pay tribute to Greek mythology with a clever and stylish interpretation of the play's main characters. Stepping away from their usual marble pedestals, Dionysus and Thalia feature their contemporary poses with smartphones in hand. This visual twist reflects the show's clever blend of ancient myths and modern realities of college life.

The first stage in creating the illustration involved drafting a reference draft. This was accomplished by forming the scene, layout, and characters in Adobe Photoshop. After finishing the draft, the project was divided by color into individual layers and then recompiled into Adobe Illustrator. These layers would be individually converted to a vector format to ensure the design could be scaled to any size. This process involved meticulous work to recreate the composition based on the drawing and correct details as necessary.

I am delighted with the final product and hope it generates excitement for the performance at the Richard Gwartney Theater.
