The Design:

While reading the brief, I found myself choosing to look outward. On this earth, there are millions of beautiful, naturally-occurring events that could be used for inspiration. Following that train of thought, I settle on the brilliance of the Aurora Borealis. The name “Aurora" has a visual softness to it, largely being composed of rounded letters. I find that the word and the variety of beautiful, vibrant colors found in the northern lights make it enticing to use for brand development. The palette, consisting of pink, is isolated from the rest of the palette of blues and greens. I view each color as an avenue for product exploration, creating a line of fragrances assigned to each color. I decide that this would form the basis for this product, and future products under Aurora Perfumes. The key elements in Aurora Perfumes’ branding are created by combining the natural with the manufactured. I take this direction and run with it.

I begin researching common perfume ingredients which leads me to the dahlia flower. Dahlia flowers are often known for their radiant elegance and beautiful petals that are key characteristics of the flower’s identity. The pink dahlia’s vibrant petals become the inspiration behind the color of the perfume itself. The glossy materials of the bottle exude a polished look, like the glass contains some form of mysticism that people also associate with the Aurora Borealis. The bottle’s luxurious name and eye-catching design are intended to catch the customer’s curiosity and entice them to hold the product. The product’s design conveys feelings of admiration, desirability, and exclusivity akin to rare metals and gemstones.

The fragrance maintains floral tones, subtly covered by an enchanting scent that intrigues the senses with every spray. Though designed to convey luxury and class, Aurora Perfumes' “Pink Dahlia” fragrance is meant to be available to a large demographic (intended for women 20+) at an affordable price. This product will be more expensive than store-bought perfumes, but less expensive than luxury fragrances. The fragrance quality is long-lasting, the cost per ounce is reasonable, and it’s meant to be a slightly significant purchase for important events or daily occupational wear where appearance and presentation are paramount.
