Inspiration

Last month marked the start of the film award season, with Barbie already bagging numerous awards and rightfully stealing the spotlight. Inspired by Ryan Gosling's iconic ✨ I'm just Ken ✨ line, I've decided to learn how to create animated paths in Spline using one of the film's memorable quotes.

Challenges

There were two main challenges that I encountered.

• One was the fact that a significant amount of time was required to tweak the path. I used a text layer created with a hand-written font (see below for reference) and then created paths on top of the image. This was the most time-consuming part. I still think I could give the letter "g" a bit more love, but it is what it is.

• The other challenge was that I hadn't previously used the video settings in Spline, so this project involved a bit more playing around to understand how the camera works and how to actually use the video export.

Process

The entire process wasn't really that complicated. All you need is a reference and an understanding of how to use the pen tool, which most designers would easily manage. I used this tutorial and also looked at some style techniques from another one to gain a better understanding of how to approach it.
