EZZA Magazine Cover

One of my favorite projects was working on this magazine cover for a fictional fashion industry I created named EZZA, short for bellezza which is Italian for the term beauty. A friend of mine had previously helped me by playing a role in a short film project I had created for school. During the production, I took some photos of all the characters included and I captured the image you see in the poster.
The biggest challenge for me was removing the background and maintaining the single strands of stray hair follicles to appear that the photo was taken inside a studio. Part of the process included adjusting the brightness, hues, saturation and curves to give her a nice shine and glow. My favorite tool during this project has to be the spot healing brush tool which allowed me to remove some of the veins, scratches, and spots that were distracting. To create a more elegant aesthetic, I thought of including marble as the background but I did not have pictures of marble at my disposal. My method was to take a picture of stone and change the saturation to a black and white hue. Then to give a sense of depth, I blurred the stone (now marble) background. I created faux headlines for the magazine and used a variety of typefaces including Modern No. 20, Bodoni URW, Book Antiqua, Bebas Neue, Palantino Linotype, and Futura.
The barcode and the image of a lady holding a magazine were used in part of my project for the purpose of making the magazine more realistic and in the form of a mockup. Both sources were taken from royalty-free sources. I'd like to provide credit for their work:
