How often have you given advice to other people? How often have they helped these people? People don't always listen to other people's advice, so I recommend lowering your expectations. It's important to understand that a person won't change until they want to change. This doesn't mean that you should be selfish and not empathetic, it means that you shouldn't be intrusive when communicating with others and give advice around.
