Betahaus Rudi-Dutschke-Straße 23

This model was created for Betahaus's anniversary event in 2023. The latest version has not been uploaded there yet.

How it's Made

The textures and basis for the geometry were made from 2 photos.

First, I corrected the lens distortion through Photoshop, then these were converted to flat planes through fspy and Blender, and finally the geometry was extruded from the image to form the features of this model, or created using the reference and placed appropriately.

Photo manipulation and AI upscaling were required to fix areas of the photos and textures that were obscured or missing, but due to practical reasons - such as a short deadline - the textures are not as clean nor the materials as good as they could have been.

Nevertheless, after an audio-reactive point cloud transformation was applied to this model by my brother, it served its purpose very well as an interactive AV experience for those in attendance at the anniversary party of Betahaus.

They were pleased.

The material for the road is from Sanctus Library, and the curb, pavement, and concrete are from Poliigon.

The HDRI is from Blender.

From the earlier version I uploaded on Sketchfab:

Betahaus, Rudi-Dutschke-Straße 23 is a building located in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, Germany. The building is known for its historical, political and social significance during the Cold War.

c1960-70 the building was home to a left-wing publishing house called the Verlag Klaus Wagenbach, known for its critical and alternative publications, including works by Jean-Paul Sartre, Günter Grass, and Max Frisch.

The building played a significant role in the student protests and left-wing movements that took place in Berlin in the late 1960s, such as the “Battle of Rudi-Dutschke-Straße” and a failed assassination attempt.

Betahaus has modernised, and now houses commercial and residential tenants. It remains a symbol of past political and social struggles and continues to attract visitors interested in its history and significance.

The right side of the model has no detail as it’s adjoined directly to another building. The rear and roof lack detail as it was constructed from limited information.
