Portfolio Story: The 50/50 Skybet Game Project
In the dynamic world of online gaming, the ability to create an engaging and intuitive user experience is paramount. I had the privilege of working on Skybet's 50/50 game, a thrilling football-based betting game that combined the unpredictability of live sports with the strategy of financial decision-making.
The 50/50 game was a unique concept where players could invest $10 and receive a virtual $100 to bet on live football game events. The game revolved around answering 6 real-time questions, such as "Will there be an offside before the 15th minute?" Players had the flexibility to either put all their $100 on one prediction or split their bets among multiple choices. The catch? It's a binary game, a simple "yes" or "no". By the end of the football match, whatever amount was left from the initial $100 was the player's to keep.
As the designer and front-end developer for this project, my primary responsibility was to ensure that the game interface was not only visually appealing but also user-friendly.
Design: I focused on creating a design that reflected the fast-paced nature of a live football game. Using a combination of bold colors and dynamic graphics, I aimed to capture the excitement and unpredictability of each match. The design also had to be intuitive, ensuring players could easily navigate through the questions and place their bets without any confusion.
Front-end Development: Once the designs were finalized, I delved into the front-end coding. I ensured that the game was responsive, catering to various screen sizes and devices. The user interface was built to be smooth and interactive, providing real-time feedback to the players as the live football game progressed.
Transition to React Native: While I initially developed the front-end using web technologies, the codebase was later adapted for React Native. This transition allowed the game to be seamlessly integrated into mobile platforms, ensuring a broader reach and a consistent experience across devices.
The 50/50 Skybet game was a project that combined my passion for design with the technical challenges of front-end development. It was a rewarding experience to see players engage with a product that I had a significant hand in shaping. The game's success underscored the importance of a well-thought-out user interface and the power of intuitive design in the world of online gaming.
