The inspiration for the piece originated in the history of the Ampersand which is the merging of two letters to form a single symbol – “and”. This symbol of the bonding of the two, as in love and friendship, is overlaid with an intricate, beautiful and painstakingly woven spider’s web that represents the various ways relationships organically generate their strength and connectivity, which is both durable and sustaining, and yet delicate and fragile.
