Partner Products | Fake Review Analysis Page | Interview Task

The product is an AI-powered tool that checks on Amazon, eBay, Sephora, Best Buy, etc if online reviews are real or fake. It uses artificial intelligence to analyze the reviews of a product on e-commerce sites and gives each product a letter-based rating.

The main revenue driver are ads called Trusted Deals. When a user reviews a product on the Fake Review Analysis Page, Trusted Deals Partners’ products get preferred placements to stand out from scammers.

Problem

The Product Team hypothesized more users would find value in ads that have summarized product information, leading to more click-throughs, however, the data is showing that:

  1. The users are not clicking through the ads.

  2. They are not interacting with Pros & Cons feature.

Goal

The Product Manager has asked me to think of a better way to display Trusted Deals to accomplish two goals:

  1. Increase user engagement with the ads (click-throughs).

  2. Increase user acceptance of the product and ad placements (use of the pros/cons feature).

Trusted Deals ad units on Fake Review Analysis Page looked like the screen below ↓

Solution

To increase the click-throughs and
user engagement I wanted to separate the overall visual appearance from Amazon to highlight the Trusted Deals as a useful part of the service and create a positive and trustful connection to the section and the brand itself.

How did I solve it?

  • Analyzed the competitors and their solutions for the ad unit and synthesized insights

  • Added a light grey section background to highlight the Trusted Deals

  • Exchanged the check icon with a smiley to give it a positive appearance and disconnect the reviews from the company logo

  • "Lowlighted" the external brand Amazon

  • Replaced the rating stars with a rating that is more associated with the company

I hope you guys like it. 🙂 👋
