Spark Change: Utah Wildfire Prevention Campaign

The Utah Wildfire Prevention Campaign, an initiative aimed at educating the public on responsible outdoor behavior to prevent wildfires, sought a comprehensive design package that would deliver a critical message in an impactful yet approachable manner. With a variety of touchpoints in mind, including flyers, handouts, stickers for firewood bundles, and stand-up banners for events, our challenge was to create cohesive, informative, and eye-catching designs that would effectively communicate the campaign's objectives.

Objectives

  • To design an array of marketing collateral, including flyers and handouts specifically intended for distribution at ranger stations in national parks and other camping areas, to educate and engage the public in wildfire prevention.

  • To create a cohesive look and feel across various mediums, from print to promotional materials, ensuring that visitors at these crucial touchpoints receive a consistent message.

  • To design assets that are versatile and effective, suitable for both indoor informational settings like ranger stations and outdoor events.

The Designs

Each design component serves a specific purpose within the overarching campaign:

  • Flyers & Handouts: Utilizing a mix of striking imagery and clear, concise language, the flyers are designed to immediately grab attention. Icons guide the reader through best practices for preventing wildfires in easy to follow steps.

  • Stickers for Firewood Bundles: These are small but significant touchpoints. Attached directly to firewood bundles sold in stores, they remind consumers of the potential consequences of their actions—right at the moment when they are most relevant.

  • Stand-Up Banners: Designed for use at various events, these banners serve as both informational and promotional tools. High-resolution images and compelling calls to action make them hard to miss, ensuring the message reaches as many people as possible.

Typography & Color Palette

The typography is clean and easily readable, even from a distance, making it ideal for both print and large-format applications. The color palette incorporates natural hues, such as forest greens and earthy browns, purples, reds and yellows to signify the many beautiful and diverse colors of Utah.

Results

The project resulted in a suite of well-integrated, visually compelling design assets that serve to inform and engage the public in a critical issue. Feedback from the Utah Wildfire Prevention Campaign has been overwhelmingly positive, with particular praise for the campaign’s cohesive and impactful visual identity.

By combining strong visual elements with concise, actionable information, the designs ensure the Utah Wildfire Prevention Campaign effectively reaches and educates its intended audience. The campaign is now equipped with versatile, attention-grabbing tools that make public education on wildfire prevention more engaging and effective than ever.
