Otori Onsen

Insight

Creating a work like "Otori Onsen" was very tough as I had to use a combination of 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, and composition techniques to achieve a captivating and visually immersive scene. The difficulty was quite high for me because it was very complex compared to the previous works I have done in Blender. My goal was to recreate a similar scene in "Spirited Away" where big birds (Orotori) were soaking themselves in a Japanese hot spring (Onsen), adding and changing some elements to try and make it look unique.

I began by creating the various components of the scene, including the architecture, landscape, water, and surrounding environment using tutorials from Youtube. I learnt many new things as I had to sculpt and shape each element to match the desired aesthetic that I was going for. I then applied textures and materials to each element to simulate realistic surfaces, such as water and the steam. I played around with the color, reflection, and transparency in the materials as I wanted to find the right balance for a believable representation. Lighting would then be set up as the scene would look very dull and boring without it. I used many lights to create the desired mood and ambiance, replicating the soft glow and natural lighting typical of a tranquil Onsen setting.
