Logo design for "Anti-War Movement of Ukraine"

Hi! I am a designer-volunteer at V Tylu Work. Once, I received a message about creating a logo for the "Anti-War Movement of Ukraine" Public Organization. The task seemed challenging to me, so I accepted it. To find out why it was challenging and how the process of creating a logo for the Public Organization went, read about the project below.

Task

I should create a logo for the "Anti-War Movement of Ukraine" Public Organisation. The task was challenging because the Public Organization aims to restore the participation of veterans and military representatives in civilian society, facilitate their adaptation and education, involve members of student, civic, and similar circles in state governance, promote patriotic values, advocate for the necessity of democratic principles in a developing society, propagate ideas of respect for their Nation, State, its culture, history, language, arts, etc., and engage in other activities related to the organization's mission, goals, and values.

Target audience are patriots of the state who are willing to invest in its future, regardless of age, gender, or preferences.

I should combine mission of the Public organisation and symbolism to create something unique.

"I hadn't had experience in creating logos for public organizations with such an important mission. So, I was ready for the challenging work of creating a logo that incorporates heraldic symbolism and represents the mission of the Public Organization."

I wrote a brief and sent it to the Client.

Brief

When I received a completed brief, I noticed that in the "Competitors" field, the client wrote: "We have no competitors - we all act for the benefit of our state." (translated).

"I was positively impressed by this stance, not just as a designer but as a person. This idea unites people and showcases the power of unity"

However, as a designer, I went on to find and analyze active public organizations to gain an understanding of what they did, how they looked, what logos they used, etc.

After that I created 4 Mood Boards.

Mood Boards

Mood Board #1 - Patriotic

National symbols serve the purpose of uniting people who love their country. Modern logos of public organizations often feature common images such as a shield, hands, flag, trident, feather, sword, deer, and dove.

Mood Board #2 - Minimalist

Doves, deer, hands, and emblems in a minimalist style look modern, clear, and still carry deep meanings.

Mood Board #3 - Modern

Modernized emblems and logos that express love for Ukraine motivate people to protect their homeland and preserve its integrity. The Mood Board includes wooden emblems, doves, oak leaves, olive branches, a shield, a banner, a sword, a deer, and a tree.

Mood Board #4 - Traditional

Emblems featuring doves, deer, light, books, oak leaves, fortresses, lions, and shields incorporate traditional signs, even in modern logotypes that adhere to heraldic rules. The Mood Board illustrates the principles of using heraldic elements in traditional emblems.

I offered 3 logotypes to the Client.

Logotypes

Logo #1 Deer - Sword

The logo consists of a deer, a sword, and an ear of wheat. The deer is a symbol of a warrior, the sword is a symbol of readiness to protect the native area from enemies, and the ear of wheat is a symbol of peacefulness and the wealth of the earth. Moreover, the logo bears a resemblance to a trident.

Logo #1 Deer - Book

This is a variation of Logo #1, where the book is used instead of the sword. The book symbolizes a rich history and the precedence of the law. Additionally, the book represents knowledge, development, enlightenment, comprehensiveness, and universality. In this case, the logo conveys the meaning of protecting the historical heritage of our state.

Logo #2 Dove - Holy Humility

The symbol represents humility and purity. The dove, bathed in sunlight, symbolizes the Holy Spirit and takes the form of a trident.

Logo #3 Dove - Ready to Defense

A dove is depicted straight on with various wing positions. One wing up and the other down symbolize protection, support, and submission. Both wings looking down suggest readiness for defense or protection. When both wings are pushed up, it conveys a sense of ambition.

I used mockups to show how the logos look in real life.

Revision

The Client chose Logo #3 for the "Anti-War Movement of Ukraine" Public Organisation.

Some time ago the Client asked me to create new variants with dove. And I offered 3 variants with doves for the Public Organisation.

Doves in Logo Design

To create these variants I chose knowledge from previous set of logo designs. The logotypes look modern and minimalist.

What is next?

The Client is choosing the logo design for the "Anti-War Movement of Ukraine".

The Public Organisation started new project is a "Victory and Recovery" Charitable Foundation and offered me to design logotype for it.

I had a testimonial from the Client and invite you to view my project.
