Design Culture at Launch

My company was recently acquired and merged with 4 other design agencies to form a super agency. I'm on the task force that's working to create a new, unified company culture to make us all feel at home. This is my proposal.

The explanation

This idea came to me while meditating on what kind of company I would want to work at. What kind of designers I want to work with. And what values I want to share with others. All of that, plus the fact that the company's name is Launch (obviously we need to be space themed).

Then I thought about the way we work with our clients. How we are brought into unfamiliar situations in strange new companies. How we are the purveyors of superior technology and ideas. And I decided that as a company, at least internally, we should refer to ourselves as aliens (just think of the kick-ass swag we could make).

Thus the idea crystalized and a voice emerged along with a set of values that centered around exploration, curiosity, wisdom, technical skill, and universe-scale innovation. And visually I ended up with tin foil textures, binary code, neon green and blue, and lot's of glow.

"Make First Contact" is all about taking the initiative, confronting the unknown, and being brave. That's the kind of company and coworkers I want to work with.
