Ugly but Honest

"Ugly but Honest" is a phrase taken from the best sign ever created, located in Tucson, Arizona. It was erected by Clyde Wanslee's Auto Sales used car dealership around 1950. The sign was an instant success, bringing business into the shop and charming the surrounding neighborhoods. Clyde's "Ugly but Honest" sign appeared in two movies: "Hanky Panky," in 1982, and "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man," in 1991.

"Ugly but Honest" describes something or someone you adore so much you see past the ugly. Your rabid, snaggletoothed chihuahua. Your chili-oil-stained, disintigrating-off-your-body sweatshirt. The "painting" your child aggressively mashed onto computer paper and then gave you for your birthday.

Your ugly, awesome city.

In the spirit of what-ya-see-is-what-ya-get Dirty T, "Ugly but Honest" is a comical jab at every "You are Beautiful" campaign in the last decade.
