Introduction

The goal of this application was to create a seamless and user-friendly platform that streamlines the process of finding and booking dog walking services, providing convenience and peace of mind for both dog owners and dog walkers.

Meet Scout 👋, the solution that simplifies the experience of dog owners searching for high-quality, trusted care for their four-legged family members.

Research

To create Scout, I needed to begin with researching and identifying the needs of dog owners. I deployed a few research methods to understand our market fit, and user persona including user interviews, and affinity mapping.

I identified a user persona to better understand how I should craft a solution for the users’ needs. Each step of this process was centered around the question “Are we solving the problems that people like Kara care about?”

User Flow

The object of creating user flows was to determine the easiest way for Kara to join Scout, and find a dog walker. To accomplish this, I needed to minimize learning curves and prioritize clarity and simplicity. Providing users the ability to “skip” inputting their information to get acquainted with the app was a crucial part of this process.

Wireframing

I created wireframes to establish the organization and functionality of the key screens included in the flows.

Visual Design

Once the low-fidelity wireframes were created, it was time to add some color. ✨ This is where Scout came to life. The visual identity was created to feel friendly, exciting, and approachable to give users a feeling of trust and companionship.

Prototyping

Once the visual identity was established, I prototyped the user flows for creating an account with Scout, and finding a dog walker. This gave a realistic example of how users might navigate the app.

User Testing

User testing revealed a few opportunities to clarify booking details and offer sufficient background information for walker profiles. Some text styles needed to be more accessible and booking information needed to be emphasized.

Conclusion

Let's be honest, it can be incredibly challenging to entrust someone you barely know with the well-being of your beloved furry friend. Scout aimed to transform dog walkers from mere strangers into trusted caretakers. By providing reassurance through rigorous background checks for all dog walkers, offer a wide range of walker skill sets that are tailored to meet your dog's specific needs, and incorporating the ability to accurately describe your dog's behavior, Scout ensured that every aspect of a dog's care was personalized and well-managed. 🐾
