History Application

History in context

I was reading a lot of science and history nonfiction around the middle 2000’s, when I came across Susan Wise Bauer’s book History of the Ancient World. The book outlines noteworthy events and relationships, but skipped from one part of the world to another in order to give the reader contextual reference to time.

I loved viewing history in context, but there was no way to keep it all straight, so I employed my knowledge of Flash to create a user-generated timemap. The idea being, users could drop a pin on the world map, and upload text, images, and video to support the event. The span of time was further represented on a traditional timeline along the bottom of the application.
