UK Sports Institute: On-track

Intro

UK Sports Institute wanted to build a performance planning tool for coaches to support their olympic athletes as a desktop companion app to their existing mobile app that UK olympic athletes were already using.

Brief

To create a design concept for a desktop product for coaches to track the performances of their athletes, teams and squads to be presented as a tool for team GB to use for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.

Brand Identity

I created a quick minimum viable brand identity based around different lanes of a running track. I wanted to reference parallel tracks as an accessible visual concept throughout the product design.

Welcome Screen

After the user creates an account they are greeted by a welcome screen that illustrates the different features of the product.

Creating a plan

The first step in the plan creation wizard is to name the plan and specify who the plan is for. Eventually the user would be able to select a team, squad or athlete from a drop down of all athletes training with UK Sports Institute.

Users can run multiple plans at the same time that they can then toggle between from their dashboard.

Goal setting

After the plan has been named and assigned, a goal can then be set with a start and end date.

Creating tracks

Custom tracks can then be created to achieve your goal, and I created a running track graphic to illustrate how the multiple tracks lead to achieving your goal. The tracks could also be assigned an icon and colour code to differentiate between them quickly.

Creating Strategies

Multiple Strategies can then be applied to Tracks to break down the approach needed to run the track.

Mapping projects on a plan

Projects could then be assigned to strategies and mapped out in the plan view. Events: Competitions, Boosts, Gamechangers and Hurdles could also be toggled on and off and overlaid over the plan.

Journal entries could also be logged to document the successes and failures of strategies. An overview of the project could also be seen on hover or clicked into to see more detailed information.

Project

A project could be selected as a modal and viewed in more detail.

Gamechangers

Gamechangers could be toggled on and off and overlaid over the plan to see how what projects are affected.

Gamechanger screen

Gamechangers can be viewed in more detail when selected, and content can be uploaded to tell the story of the Gamechanger in more detail.

Strategies

Strategies could also be selected and projects could be viewed as cards assigned to them with some high level overview information.

Journal Entries

Content could be added to journal entries and a breadcrumb breakdown gives an overview of what strategies, projects and tracks were running at the time for reference. The breakdown could also be seen as a selection of mini cards to quickly review the project and strategy aims.

Highlights Reel

Journal entries could also be added to a retrospective highlight reel to share successes throughout the plan.

The Story

The final story of the plan could then be grouped into beginning, middle and end and given a success rating for each stage.

Plan Archive

Completed plans could be selected and reviewed from an archive in the Dashboard.
